Copilot Mode shown in this video has been retired.
Copilot is now built directly into Microsoft Edge and does not require activation.
The concepts in the video still apply — Copilot enhances browsing, handles tasks, and uses Vision and Voice — but the interface has changed.
Summary of the Video
Inside Microsoft Edge, users can navigate to the Settings area, where they will find a section titled “AI Innovations.” This section offers an option to explore “Copilot Mode.” When users select “Explore Copilot Mode,” they are greeted with a splash screen that introduces them to the features of this new mode.
Copilot Mode signifies an initial step in the transformation of Microsoft Edge into an agentic browser, which aims to enhance the user experience through a variety of innovative functionalities. A prominent feature of Copilot Mode is voice navigation, which enables users to interact with the browser using voice commands. This functionality is designed to streamline the browsing experience, allowing for hands-free operation and making it easier for users to navigate the web.
In addition to voice navigation, Copilot Mode allows users to delegate specific tasks to the browser, which can autonomously manage these tasks. This capability is intended to save users time and effort, as they can rely on the browser to handle routine activities without needing to engage directly.
Another important feature of Copilot Mode is its ability to provide quick answers to user queries. This functionality is akin to features found in other web browsers, enhancing the efficiency of information retrieval. Users can find the information they need more easily, reducing the time spent searching for answers.
Copilot Mode also introduces a redesigned homepage that focuses on managing routine tasks. This new homepage is tailored to facilitate easier access to frequently used features and tools, streamlining the user experience. This functionality was previously part of Copilot Labs, which has now been incorporated into the Copilot aspect of the Edge browser.
The concept of Copilot vision is emphasized as a significant element of Microsoft Copilot, suggesting a focus on visual components and potentially improved graphical interfaces within the browser. Users are encouraged to explore additional features and elements available in this section, which may enhance their overall browsing experience.
Upon enabling Copilot Mode, users will encounter another splash screen that provides an overview of the features they are already familiar with. The subsequent tab opened will direct users to Microsoft Copilot, further integrating these innovative features into their browsing activities.
The overarching goal of these developments is to cultivate a more intuitive and efficient browsing environment. By leveraging AI technologies, Microsoft aims to assist users in their online activities, making the browsing experience more seamless and user-friendly.
